Logo....so what is that? A logo is symbolic, an identifying mark that conveys identity or ownership. The main function is to elicit recognition. It's to keep your attention there and place an imprint on your brain. Its a visual form that is recognizable. The object of a logo is to identify, to communicate a desired thought or feeling, and to generate a desired emotional response. A thought-provoking logo design can strengthen your brand image and corporate identity, giving you a psychological advantage over your competition. Your logo is the core of your corporate identity, defining and symbolizing the character of your company or organization.
Purpose:
All graphic designers work on creating or improving a current logo. Students will understand the process of improving a current logo through research, experimentation, critique and reflection. Through this process, students will recreate a current logo. This will be done through drawing and will graded on clean lines, thoughtful process of color experimentation, and creativity.
Examples:
First Research Assignment: Students will find THREE examples for each of the three types of logos and email to emily_oryan@dpsk12.org:
1. Iconic/Symbolic: Symbols that are instantaneously recognizable. Memorable. Clarity when reproduced in small sizes. Can be illustrative in nature, either concrete or abstract.
2. Logotype/Wordmark: Charateristics include fonts. It's all about font choice using color, size, style, and composition.
3. Combination Marks: This includes characteristics from symbols and logotype. It involves a symbol and a font.

Objective: Students will gain understanding of the PROCESS of creating a logo through research, investigation, and reflection. They will redesign a logo that is currently being used and present their new logo to the class. They will understand the use of color theory, composition, movement, and text are all important features to creating a quality logo.
1. Students will recreate a current logo experimenting in their sketchbooks. They should create 3 versions.
2. After analyzing all three, choose one or a combination of characteristics from all of the versions. Redraw on drawing paper.
3. Clean, clear, and crisp are the requirements for the final drawing.
4. Include when submitting: a) final drawing b) three versions c) a reflection on why you did not include the other three and what your newly created logo designs means. It conveys what style...
